You will not believe the top ten list of most stolen cars. Believe it or not, it’s the older model cars that top the list. The main reason is there are still so many of them on the road thanks to the longevity of the vehicles. So since they have been around longer, they are naturally going to be at the top of the list.
The 1994 Honda Accord tops the list while the 1998 Honda Civic came in at number two. The amazing thing is the current value of a 1994 Honda Accord is around $2000.
One of the reasons for the Honda’s ranking at the top of the list is because thieves can get a higher price for parts on these cars, and there are still a lot of these cars on the road. I guess it’s much less of a hassle stealing an older model car. Also the newer anti-theft devices on newer cars keeps the theft rate down on them. Auto thefts are actually down over the past few years.
Here is how the remainder of the list stacks up. The 2006 Ford F-Series of pickups comes in at number three. 1991Toyota Camry comes in at number four. Next is the 2000 Dodge Caravan at No. 5, then ’99 Chevrolet Silverado pickup. You will notice the Silverado is the only GM product in this list. Next is the the 2004 Dodge Ram pickup, the 2002 Ford Explorer SUV, and last is the 1994 Nissan Sentra.
Of the newer vehicles, the Cadillac Escalade has the highest theft rate. So if you are driving an Escalade (or have an older model car) than make sure you have a good anti-theft device if it’s not already on the vehicle.
